Actually, I had been meaning to write about the book I read, by the Russian writer, Sergei Lukyanenko, the Day Watch series (Day Watch, Night Watch and Twilight Watch)
In the book, there are "Others" - people with magical powers and they are divided between the Light Ones and the Dark Ones. Bad translation aside (well, the ones I read have some mixed up here and there, I guess the publisher is out to make a quick buck, cashing in on people's thirst for anything magical since Harry Potter and Twilight Sagas.
I like the story, where it sets you thinking about chances, of things that happened in life as pure chance or pure co-incident or pure calculation. In the end, what will happen is there will be an equilibrium, a plateau. Just like the Chinese belief in Yin-Yang, the scientific take on action / reaction.
Everyday, this equation takes place, every second, every minute. Something's gotta give. It is a matter of what, when, where, how and whether it's worth it, in our own personal view. Strange isn't it?
