Durian Is A Social Event

I posted in my Facebook that durian eating is a social event. Apparently, many are waiting for the chance to eat durian together. Hmmm...not a bad idea actually.

Not many people realise that no other fruits elicits conversation like durian does. Where else can you find a fruit what is being discussed in depth? Where else can you find yourself inviting either your family or friends to go for fruits? Only durians. Topic can range from cheap to expensive, good to so-so. The topic inevitably revolve around the "value", "taste" and "texture" - very much like wine and other fine dining experience.

I think, no other nation loves durians like Malaysians do. Even other places where durians are grown and sold, it is just like a normal fruit but in Malaysia, the questions can range from, is it fresh, is it good, is it sweet, is it bitter, is it from Penang, is it from Johor, is it from Pahang etc, where the durians mostly come from.

I love to experience durians in the orchard. Not only is it cheaper, it is fresher too. And if you can get those organically grown ones, those planted with love, that would be the ultimate durian. Apparently, most durian growers keep the really top range and best to themselves and family. I have had the chance to savour some and truly, it is very different from the commercial variety.

But then, you don't get such durians often. In the meantime, the commercial variety will have to do. Something like the Cullens??? That's all about durians this year. Ciao...
